Nobody started a business to run payroll. It has to be right every time, the deposits have to land on the right day, and the quarterly forms have to match. We do all of it, and the entries post straight into your books.

Payroll for the businesses Raleigh runs on
National payroll platforms are built for every business in America. We are built for the ones we see every week in Wake County. Tipped restaurant payroll with tip credits. Construction crew payroll with subcontractors and overtime that changes week to week. Technician pay at auto repair shops, flat rate and hybrid. Each has rules that a generic setup gets wrong, and payroll tax notices follow.
Payroll taxes explained once, so you never think about them again
Every pay run creates four obligations: federal income tax withholding, Social Security and Medicare, North Carolina withholding, and state unemployment insurance. Each has its own deposit schedule and its own return. Miss one and the penalty arrives months later with interest attached. Our job is that none of them is ever missed. If a notice has already arrived from a previous provider, James, as an Enrolled Agent, can represent you with the IRS, sort it out, and put any payroll tax balance on a payment plan before a levy follows.
Owners of S corporations: your salary is a payroll question
If your LLC is taxed as an S corporation, the IRS expects you to pay yourself a reasonable salary through payroll before taking distributions. Setting that salary, running it correctly and documenting why it is reasonable is part of our payroll service for owners. It is also one of the most common questions in business consulting, and the answer should come from someone who sees your actual profit.
Questions clients ask
What payroll taxes does a North Carolina small business have to file?
Federal income tax withholding, Social Security and Medicare (Form 941 quarterly, Form 940 annually), North Carolina income tax withholding (NC-5 or NC-5Q), and state unemployment insurance through the NC Division of Employment Security. We calculate, deposit and file all of them as part of the payroll service.
Can you handle tipped employees?
Yes. Restaurants and salons are a large share of our payroll clients. Reported tips, tip credits and the related withholding are built into each payroll run.
Do you pay subcontractors too?
Yes. Subcontractors are paid through the same process, W-9s are collected up front, and 1099-NEC forms go out in January so you are not chasing addresses at year end.
How does payroll connect to my bookkeeping and taxes?
Every payroll run posts to your books automatically, so wages, employer taxes and liabilities are already reconciled when your financial statements and business tax return are prepared. One firm, one set of numbers.
What if I have received a payroll tax notice already?
Bring it to James. As an Enrolled Agent he can represent you before the IRS and work with the NC Department of Revenue to correct the filing, abate penalties where the facts support it, and set up a payment arrangement if a balance is owed.
